Abstract
Enhancing student well-being and preventing bullying require students’ active involvement in building a positive school culture. This community service initiative aimed to improve students’ understanding of school well-being and bullying prevention, develop social-emotional skills, and prepare students to become pioneers of a positive culture at Sekolah Dasar Marsudirini. The initiative employed the Participatory Action Learning and Reflection (PALAR) approach, which involved students in identifying problems, reflecting on experiences, planning actions, and working toward change within the school environment. The stages included coordination and preparation, needs identification, initial assessment (pretest), awareness-raising activities on school well-being and bullying prevention, social-emotional skills training, the establishment of Well-Being School Ambassadors, positive school culture campaigns, mentoring, and monitoring and evaluation. Implementation combined interactive lectures, discussions, simulations, role-playing, educational games, project-based learning, reflection, and group mentoring. The targeted outcomes included improved understanding of school well-being and bullying, greater student involvement in building healthy interpersonal relationships, and the development of empathy, tolerance, care, and social responsibility. The establishment of ambassadors and implementation of campaigns were intended to encourage students to serve as pioneers of a safe, comfortable, and inclusive school culture. The initiative’s contribution lies in applying participatory mentoring that connects understanding of bullying, social-emotional skills development, and students’ collective action. This approach provides a practical basis for higher education institutions to engage in supporting schools in developing an educational ecosystem that promotes students’ well-being and character development on an ongoing basis.
